Maribel P. Fuentes
#EISDTeacherOfTheYear #EdgewoodProud Meet Maribel P. Fuentes, the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for Roosevelt Elementary.
Maribel is from Monterrey, capital of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Fuentes has been an educator for 28 ½ years and going on 20 years this May in Edgewood. Her teaching career began at St. Anthony's Elementary School. She transitioned to Gardendale Elementary serving for 16 years and has continued at Roosevelt Elementary.
She realized her gift early on for working with children and wanted to share it.
"My mother said, "If you have a gift, you should share and nourish it.' It's a privilege to get up and share my gift here at the school.'
"As educators, we not only share our professionalism and the materials, ideas, and pedagogy. But we also share our families and accomplishments.'
As for being nominated Teacher of the Year, Fuentes says she was very happy. "I've always felt there are many strong and deserving teachers. To learn that I was chosen, I felt very humbled.'
